Lumber Mill Texture Design

This Lumber Mill was created for a mobile game by Panteon Games and is set in a world within Norse Mythology. My job as a Texture Artist was to elevate the 3D model by painting it with a cartoony style that kept the finished product fun while also remaining fairly realistic with the depiction of the textures. To keep with the Scandinavian theme I opted to adding a traditional Nordic Knot design carved on to the horizontal beam of the Mill.

A big personal goal for this project was to keep the design language for the wooden texture pretty similar while being able to discern the differences between cut-wood and wood that still has the bark attached. I was constantly thinking about how this 3D model would have really been constructed in real life which inspired the final results as you can see with the joinery of the wood.

This helped push the low-poly 3D structures to look like they have more complexly sculpted surfaces with more facets than what meets the eye.

Keeping every single material in mind while creating this product was extremely crucial in maintaining a consistent visual language that fits each piece together while also having enough differentiation between each type of material.

The final UV Map is seen here with the textures already finished and applied. Keeping in mind that certain textures may look a certain way during the painting process while having a different effect in the final iteration when lighting is included.
